The Challenge
When the global pandemic hit, MediCare Plus saw their traffic explode overnight. Their existing monolithic infrastructure began to crumble under the load. Doctors couldn’t connect with patients, video calls were dropping, and database locks were causing massive latency.
They needed to scale immediately to meet critical healthcare needs while maintaining strict HIPAA compliance and data security.
The Solution
We executed an emergency migration strategy, strangling the monolith and moving critical components to a scalable cloud architecture.
WebRTC Video Infrastructure
We rebuilt the video consultation core using a custom WebRTC implementation optimized for variable bandwidth conditions. We implemented adaptive bitrate streaming to ensure calls stayed connected even on poor rural connections.
HIPAA-Compliant Data Lake
We architected a secure data lake using AWS S3 with strict encryption-at-rest and in-transit. We implemented granular IAM policies and audit logging to ensure every single data access event was tracked and verifiable.
Autoscaling Infrastructure
We moved the application to a serverless container environment. This allowed the infrastructure to automatically spin up hundreds of instances during morning appointment peaks and scale down at night to save costs.
Key Technologies
- WebRTC: For low-latency, peer-to-peer video streaming.
- AWS Fargate: For serverless container orchestration.
- Terraform: For Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure reproducible, compliant environments.
- Redis: For managing ephemeral session state.
The Results
We stabilized the platform within 2 weeks and supported their growth for the next year.
- 1 Million+ Daily Active Users: Successfully handled peak load without downtime.
- Zero Security Breaches: Maintained perfect compliance records during third-party audits.
- 60% Cost Reduction: Optimized cloud spend by moving to autoscaling resources.
“In a crisis, you need partners you can trust. Sparkable didn’t just fix our servers; they helped us save lives by keeping our doctors connected.” — Dr. Robert Aris, Chief Medical Officer at MediCare Plus
